The Ultegra CS-R8000 11 Speed Cassette brings exciting news with its expanded range of gearing options. In response to the growing demand for versatile drivetrains in road, gravel, and endurance cycling, Shimano has invested in the R8000 series, providing enhanced capabilities. While you still have access to the popular cassette options, including combinations up to 11-32T, Shimano introduces a twist with the addition of the 11-34T variant. This new option is designed to offer increased stiffness, durability, and features similar cog design, finish, and tooth profiling as the R8000. However, it belongs to a different build and series, known as the HG800 11-34T, separate from the R8000 line.
To complement the Ultegra cassette, Shimano presents the new Ultegra RD-R8000 Shadow Rear Derailleur, available in two sizes: SS (short cage) and GS (mid-cage). The SS version is compatible with cassettes up to 11-30, while the GS model is required for the 11-32 and 11-34 options. Notably, this setup is fully compatible with Dura-Ace R9000/R9100 series as well.
